I think of my pictures as spontaneous creations. The Act and process of their creation are certainly willful, but the source they originate from is not deliberately conceived but is a result of impulse, intuition and dealing with my memories and emotions. Sometimes my work is driven by joy or sorrow; sometimes, after long and intense conversations with friends, they culminate from my reflections of past pains and traumas – either way, deep impressions compel me to draw. It is a means for me to set myself free of wounds, fears and doubts and question topics like identity or the relation of the person with their body. Not seeing a dissonance in seemingly opposite things but harmony, when I draw, I want to find a common ground, a universal experience. I try not to lead the line but to follow its path, navigating with it across the paper.

#MERMEIDS #MERMALES #MERMATES

Mermaids, these vicious mythological female creatures that catch their prey by making them long for physical contact, seducing them with their stunning beauty in a premeditated act to voraciously devour their flesh. In the series “MERMATES”, the creatures are liberated form their stereotype and are given a personality, being at times seductive, playful, sassy, secretive, sexy – and always incredibly charming. In contrast to their delicate and straightforward lines, the Mermates are intriguing as they refuse to comply to the standards of beauty, seduction, sexuality and gender.
